Enslaved African Americans were more vulnerable than whites to respiratory infections, thanks to poorly constructed slave shacks that admitted winter cold and summer heat. Slaves’ immune systems were unfamiliar with, or naïve to, microbes that caused various pneumonias and tuberculosis. Parasitic infections and abysmal nutrition also undermined blacks’ immunological rigor. Before antibiotics and sterile technique, surgery was an often-fatal affair. Unaware of the connection between bacteria and infection, surgeons operated in their street clothes and with dirty hands in filthy environments, such as the shacks that served as “slave hospitals.” Even minor incisions or injuries could proceed to life-threatening infections with frightening rapidity.

…just in case you forgot #WakeUp #GoodMorning

If you read the report from “Operation Ghetto Storm” it’s actually a black PERSON not a black MAN that is killed every 28 hours. That means that black women (and non gender binary folks) are also included in that statistic. Can we please stop pretending like black women’s bodies especially aren’t also criminalized and that they aren’t also subject to vigilante antiblack violence. The Renisha McBride case literally just ended and the media is still criminalizing her body.

newsflash: black people who are not cisgender men also E X I S T

Enforcement Officials Beat & Kidnap a 12-yo Black Girl in Front of her Residence, Claiming She Was a Prostitute
"When her mother and father came outside after hearing her cries for help she was desperately holding a tree with one arm while plainclothes officers were beating her in the head, neck and throat.
Dymond Milburn, now 20-years-old, was an honor student attending advanced classes at Austin Middle School, when her life would be forever scarred by Galveston police.”
None of the enforcement officials who terrorized and beat Milburn were penalized.

smh….

officers were beating her in the head, neck and throat.
they were literally trying to kill her. this is a little girl. what the fuck.

Even better:After hung jury, girl won’t be retried in police assault case (2009)http://m.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/After-hung-jury-girl-won-t-be-retried-in-police-1601070.php
"Five of the six jurors refused to vote to convict Milburn of felony assault, said defense attorney Anthony Griffin and Assistant District Attorney Veronique Cantrell-Avloes.
An earlier attempt to try the case also ended in a mistrial after a witness made an improper statement in front of the jury.”
They tried to beat a young girl’s head in, and then charged her with felony assault on one of the officers. And there was at least one asshole juror who wanted to convict her at a retrial.

*screams*

This government doesn’t give a fuck about us. According to our system,we deserve to be punished for being terrorized. And let it be clear that this is a little girl who was brutalized and made to relive her trauma in court, can we stop centering brutality soley on black boys and men…it’s erasive as fuck.
